Learn About SPAN-DS

SPAN-DS is the Substance Prevention & Awareness Network.
It is never too soon to start preparing our kids to live healthy lifestyles…

Statistics confirm that young adults who abuse alcohol and drugs are at a higher risk for academic under-achievement, significantly increase their likelihood of developing health problems, and can face severe legal consequences.
Since 2002, SPAN-DS has been working to prevent and decrease substance abuse in our communities, especially among youth.  The goal of SPAN-DS is to offer visible and practical community wide support in an effort to encourage individuals to choose not to abuse alcohol and drugs.  To that end, SPAN-DS helps build networks among parents, students, and other individuals in order to heighten awareness, promote responsible behaviors and encourage strong support systems.

SPAN-DS presently includes staff members of DSHS and DSMS, representatives from local law enforcement agencies and faith communities, middle and high school youth and parents as well as area businessmen and women.
Research confirms the trends are most effectively impacted through the concerned efforts of the community at large.  Please consider joining the SPAN-DS community members and help us work together to support one another in promoting healthy lifestyles for our youth.

To learn more about SPAN-DS, please visit our website where you will be prompted to select state/county/town… hence Massachusetts, Norfolk, Dover.  You can also contact us directly at
